Out & About
Getting around Torquay is easiest on foot. Otherwise, we recommend the following taxi companies:
Harbourside Taxis: 01803 212 121
Torbay Cab Company: 01803 292 292
Options for eating out in Torquay have been wonderfully expanding over the past few years so there's now some great variety on offer. A good overall list is accessible at Eating Out Guide.
Long established as the best seafood restaurant in the area is No 7Fish Bistro while Michelin-starred The Elephant is perfect for that extra special occasion. For diners wanting a more casual and/or less pricey yet high-quality meal we can highly recommend the following:
This small and wonderful independent restaurant is less than 10 minutes on foot down to the sea front. Within its first year of opening, this place got mention in the Michelin Guide - which isn't at all surprising! Offering meat, fish, and vegetarian options of locally sourced ingredients, there's plenty of delicious choices. Sitting out on the patio when weather permits, one has great views out over the bay.
A Greek and Turkish restaurant in Torwood St (just up from the Marina). It took us a while to make it here because it was always fully booked when we tried to just walk in on a whim. Now we know why - the service is excellent, the food delicious, and the atmosphere 'smart/casual' with a tasteful and subtle Eastern Mediterranean feel.
With a beautiful view over Abbey Sands and a wonderful menu at excellent prices, Le Bisrot Pierre offers the best value for money in the area - in our opinion. See their website for details about the special 'Wine and Dine' evenings or the 'Soiree Gastronomique'. Booking is very often required.
A great place in Teignmouth with delicious food and occasional live music.
